Root Division is a San Francisco-based visual arts non-profit that connects art, creativity and community through a dynamic ecosystem of arts education, exhibitions, and studios. The organization was founded in 2002 as a sustainable arts hub that would constructively address the main challenges facing Bay Area emerging artists: need for low-cost studio space, exhibition opportunities, and arts-related professional development. Our mission is to empower artists, promote community service, inspire youth, and enrich the Bay Area through engagement in the visual arts.

Featured Artists

Painting of a woman laying in a large brown armchair with her legs bent into her chest and feet resting on the back of the chair. She wears a bra, shorts, and one fishnet thigh high stocking. A deep indigo blue light is cast across her face, the arms of the chair, and the walls behind her.

Audrey Herrera

A print, bursting with energy and roughly inked in dark blue, black, red and orange. A catfish with red-rimmed eyes emerges almost entirely from chaotically churning waters, a blazing sun emitting rays into the sky just above his head.

Ji Young Lee

A white cloud-like form spans the paper from left to right on a sky blue background. There are small strands of darker blue, white and red from the handmade paper that are visible throughout the composition.

Elaine Nguyen

A ceramic sculpture that features many tiny spikes and circles that are indented into the clay in an erratic pattern. It is glazed predominantly in a goldish brown color, with some drips and lines of white and darker, reddish brown.
